About Our Stroke Program
When it comes to treating a stroke, minutes count. Time lost is brain lost, which makes education about the signs of stroke and what you can do to reduce or prevent stroke important for everyone.
Bayshore Medical Center is home to one of Meridian Health’s five nationally-accredited Primary Stroke Centers, with access to the Meridian Transfer Center, connecting you to the region’s only Stroke Rescue Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. No matter where you are in Monmouth or Ocean counties, you are just minutes from the advanced stroke care of Hackensack Meridian Health Neuroscience.
Bayshore’s Stroke Center offers a dedicated team of physicians, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and emergency department staff who are available to diagnose and treat acute stroke patients, 24-hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days of the year. In many cases, t-PA, or “clot busters” can be administered to dissolve the clots that are keeping blood from flowing to the brain, but it must be administered within a three-hour window. Our team is able to respond.
In the event of a stroke: Identify and ACT!
- Face: Does the face look uneven?
- Arm: Does one arm drift down?
- Speech: Does their speech sound strange?
- Time: Call 911 immediately – don’t delay

Rehabilitation: The Full Continuum of Care
Stroke recovery often continues beyond the inpatient setting. When you become a member of our family, you can feel comforted that the excellent care you received as an inpatient will extend to your outpatient needs as well, with access to comprehensive outpatient and sub-acute rehabilitation services through Meridian Health or in your home through Meridian At Home.
